Hi Everyone,
We’re so glad you’re here. We’ve had a wave of new subscribers recently, so if you’re new to our community, welcome. We’re excited to have you with us.
Our bi-weekly newsletter, The Shift Report, is an inside look at everything happening at FemInEM, a space where we share the work we’re doing, the conversations we’re following, and the exciting projects on the horizon.

Where We’ve Been: Our Community in Action
Our FemInEM community continues to make an impact everywhere. Check out some of our latest appearances:
FemInEM Lectures and Speaking Engagements
Dr. Lauren Fine is advancing our efforts in Texas by training providers to deliver high-quality emergency reproductive care. With the first phase of the project successfully completed, we have now directly educated nearly 1,500 physicians. The initiative is expanding to rural and critical access sites, bringing this essential education to the communities that need it most.
Dr. Heather Hammerstedt kicked off FemInEM’s new physician education program in Idaho, delivering the inaugural lecture at the Northwestern Ski Symposium hosted by the Idaho ACEP Chapter. This expansion strengthens our commitment to equipping clinicians in restrictive states to provide evidence-based reproductive healthcare within the law.

Unlike abortion clinics, these clinics rarely have licensed medical profes…
The Evolving Regulatory Framework for Contraceptive Care
In 8th grade civics class, students learn that the legislative branch (Congress) is responsible for making federal laws. While that is true, this explanation ignores the entire field of administrative law. Administrative law is how rules and regulations are promulgated by the executive branch, the branch of government headed by the President. This means…
Empty Eyes - Compassion Fatigue in the ED
I’m sitting behind my computer, looking at the sepsis order set that my administration has deemed the saving grace of all sepsis mortality in the hospital system, with the utmost disdain. The nurses hate the order set and have become conditioned to roll their eyes every time someone mentions the wordy “tachycardic.”This flu season has been long and drai…

Our goal is to help you represent the best version of yourself and get your excellence recognized.
State-Based Reproductive Health Cohorts: Our state-based reproductive healthcare working groups bring together emergency physicians in similar practice environments to share resources, exchange best practices, and develop regionally tailored strategies.
